Like ballad- and story-sheets, ‘lines in memorium’ could recount popular figures and tragic events, in this case the death of fishermen at sea, acting as a spur to shared memory and collective acknowledgment, and perhaps also as a warning to youth of the dangers and potential losses associated with a particular livelihood.
