Pilgrim's Progress

10. Finally, The Little Pilgrim’s Progress is a full version with illustrations (some hand-coloured), gilt-tooled illustration (each different) within multiple borders on the front and back covers, and gilt edges. As such, it is not ‘miniature’ like the downmarket version previously mentioned, although it may not have been expensive. Regardless, it was published in Philadelphia by Smith and Peck in 1844, providing one (later) example of the great transnational dissemination of Pilgrim’s Progress, in this case to America, but also elsewhere in and following the Romantic period.
