4. Story-sheet

The story-sheet is a single sheet of paper with print on one side; it was a quick and cheap way to circulate short fiction among the working classes. The stories are largely narrative driven; they could be comical or dramatic; they were produced to meet the interests of publishers and readers, adapted to regional conditions and current affairs. Like ballads, they could also refer to prominent figures and events, contemporary or historical.
