Narrative

Knowledge Generation

4. 3) Constable’s Miscellany of Original and Selected Publications in the Various Department’s of Literature, Science, and the Arts, Vol. XLVI, An Autumn in Italy (Edinburgh: Constable; London: Hurst, Chance, 1829) by J.D. Sinclair is a personal narrative of a tour in the Austrian, Tuscan, Roman and Sardinian states in 1827. As such, this is not a ‘dictionary’ or ‘portfolio’ compiling general knowledge from many subject areas in one volume to act as a reference book. It is a set treating more particular topics in greater deal, and as such, combining breadth and depth in a way that was likely more suitable to readers with the leisure to read longer works.
