The Mysterious Marriage, or, the Will of My Father by Catherine G. Ward was serialized from 1824-26 as part of ‘Original Novels and Romances embellished with engravings’, with each pamphlet sold for sixpence. Besides the chapbook, this was another way that downmarket readers gained access to modern fiction. In this case, the novel complete and unabridged was available, although in parts priced relative to what most working-class people could afford to pay on a regular basis for reading material.
