Price Point

14. Price: 2s. 6d. per issue

Percy’s Anecdotes were issued monthly, each issue containing anecdotes on one topic such as humanity, eloquence, youth, or enterprise, as in the fifth part shown here. Each issue cost two shillings and sixpence; it was an expensive purchase, especially if all ten parts (and counting) listed at the back cover were collected. Beyond the distinguishing price, each issue includes ‘a highly-finished ornamental Portrait’ of a prominent figure, such as William Wilberforce, Lord Erskine, the son of Sir George Dallas, or Mungo Park (part five). Part eleven, Anecdotes of Imagination, scheduled to appear next in the series, includes a portrait of Sir Walter Scott, Bart.
