9. In 1805, Campbellā€™s earlier poetry was published as a collection of Poems. Over the following years, he continued to compose poetry, including his Romantic epic Gertrude of Wyoming (1809). He also delivered a series of lectures on poetry at the Royal Institution in London. In 1819, Campbell published Specimens of the British Poets, a critical biographical survey of historical poets and their writing. From 1821-1830, he held the position of editor for New Monthly Magazine, in which he published his poem The Last Man and his Lectures on Poetry based on those originally presented at the Royal Institution (1821-26). This volume of The Pocket Magazine of Classic and Polite Literature (11:1823) includes engravings for poems by Campbell and Robert Southey.
